Are Xenon lights legal in Australia?
I've recently bought a VS Commodore and I find the stock headlights terrible compared to that of my Sportivo. I was thinking of changing them to xenon lights. I believe you can get a complete HID kit or just change to xenon globes.
Anyway.. I see them on upper class cars like Audi and BMW's although they tend to blind me as I drive pass on the opposite side so I gather there must be restrictions. Right?
Can anybody feed me this info and recommend me on what to do and what globes to get etc?

they are legal, they are a pain in the bum driving towards someone with them, its shocking at midnight going through the bush with them coming towards you as you can't see anything at all till your eyes re-adjust. you can get xenon charged globes, they are about 40 bucks or so and offer about 50% more light over the standard globe, they are a slightly whiter light, don't go completely white or blue, when it rains they become useless. don't up the wattage on the globes, it will melt the plastic lenses.
the HID kits sound good in theory, but cost a lot of money, you will also find that you will not get very good light output and people will be forever flashing you (due to stray light). the lenses need to be designed for HID's so adding them on afterwards scatters the light and is worse than the standard.
Autobarn or similar has a good range and are usually good to help, i have philips power2night's in my cars, they are fantastic, a have an EF falcon and an NL fairlane, both known for having shocking headlights (at the time they we not to bad when compared to the VS) and these globes made a huge difference. there are restrictions on how high your lights can point, as not to *dazzle* on coming drivers, yours might be pointed a bit low?
over time globes dim down a bit so it might be worth changing over your highbeams also.
