In 1848, in order to meet the increasing demand for his wire rope - this famous resident opened a factoy in this state.Later his wire rope(cable) was used to build one of the most famous landmark - approximately 60 miles from his factory.
I put "wire rope" + 1848 into the Yahoo search engine and came up with John A. Roebling, a German immigrant and engineer who invented wire rope and had a factory in Trenton, NJ. The famous landmark would be the Brooklyn Bridge.
