Is it a good idea to hook up a 10' sub with a 12' sub on a 500 watt mono amp?
I recently bought a 12' alpine type R sub with a alpine 500 watt mono amp. After hooking those two up my system was really loud and I loved it. About two days later the sub stopped kicking and I popped the trunk to find out the problem and my sub was smoking like crazy! Turns out it was blown and so I went and replaced it with one just like it for free thanks to the service plan at best buy. The new one works fine but I obviously can't turn it up as load as it was. I have an old 10' visionik crappy sub that has been sitting in my basement for a while so I thought about splitting the wires from my amp to power both subs It sounds alright but it is not much louder. Is this a very stupid idea? Any other suggestions to make the system louder without frying any of it? I am really a newbie when it comes to this stuff any help would be flipping sweet.
I wasn't even going to answer this untill i realized that i didn't think you got the best advice . I have been in car audio comp's for the last 10years from NY all the way to Honolulu, now if you have the sub hook it up it will give you more of a range of music , hitting tight bass and and heavy bass at the same time as for spl you wont get much more maybe 1db but that because the 12 moves so much air as it is but it would be a great way to get full use of the amp and at the same time protect the 12, just make sure you wire it to the right ohm load use this sight to help with that ,, http://www.crutchfield.com/S-C7QRtJ3npdz/learn/learningcenter/car/subwoofers_wiring.html
bad idea to hook up speakers of different sizes lol and that why you see 2 5 1/4 in most doors 6x9's in most rear dash and 8'' or bigger sub's in the trunk , hell i thing the dude on you tube hitting 164 is useing 10's for his mid's
