I want to run an 800 watt amp in my car which has a 12 volt battery. The car is a 2001 Nissan Altima if that helps at all. Is this possible? What could be some bad things about this? If this would not work how hard is it to hook up another car battery to power the amp separately?
Of course you can. Setting up a second battery is not real easy if you don't know what you are doing. Charging 2 batteries usually requires a bigger alternator. You don't want to do this.
Problems you will have with using one battery will be lack of power to other parts of your car. You might notice the headlights dim every time the bass hits hard. If you run the stereo with the engine off the battery will die very fast.
For the most part though you should be fine.
