Why don't they just leave them as normal mirrors, the drivers side is !! the rear view is!! I know the passenger side is a touch further away but I drove cars from the sixties, seventies etc and they only had normal mirrors and never had a problem with them, at least I could tell where the car was before I changed lane now I cant, you always have to turn around and have a good look which is more dangerous. I hate those mirrors, I'm taking mine off and getting the mirror replaced with "Normal Vision" next they will make a rear view mirror saying "Objects may appear further than what they are" its stupid.
You have it wrong - its the opposite. The warning is: Objects in mirror ARE CLOSER than they APPEAR. The drivers mirror is flat, but the passenger's is convex (it bulges out) supposedly to help compensate for the "blind spot" back off to the right. This shape places more visual information into that reflection, making each object smaller thereby creating the illusion that the objects are farther away. It's just a reminder that cars are closer than they seem.
