A component speaker is made up of a separate midrange and tweeter. That is why many call them separates. They will also usually come with a crossover that filters out the bass from the tweeter, and the highs from the midrange. The frequency of the crossover setting is usually preset and is around 3500hZ (hertz).The stock size in the front of your Mustang is a 5x7. However, you may have the separate factory tweeter located up higher in the door where the outside mirrors would bolt through. Even if you don't have the stock separates, you can always install components. Do you have the Mach 460 system? On that system, the 5x7's both front and rear are factory amplified and crossed over at 350hZ. The tweeters are actually more of a full range speaker and play from 350hZ and up. So just replacing the speakers with aftermarket components will not work since the aftermarkets are a midrange and a tweeter, not a midbass and a fullrange.
