I am buying two alpine type x 12's and these subs have a lot of power, I am wondering what enclosure would be best for these subs? I need a strong durable enclosure. Are there any good brands? And show me the link to the page, thank you
Like what Reaper said, don't use a prefab enclosure. It will not give you the most from your subs.
It depends on what type of sound you are looking for for me to tell you what specs would work the best. The enclosure needs to be designed around the specs of your subs and to the sound you are looking for.
Personally I like to put the Type-Xs in an enclosure that is 1.75 cubes per chamber and tuned to around 30Hz. You get great low end extension and good output. It is a good enclosure for getting sound quality from your subs as well as some deep bass.
As for what to look for in materials...
3/4" MDF or thicker should be used as well as some internal bracing. Prefab enclosures typically come with cheap "MDF" wood. It isn't actually as dense as good MDF and is not all that strong either.
