Can I safely connect a wired subwoofer to an older surround receiver that has no sub out?
My old Yamaha surround receiver has no "sub out." My subwoofer is not powered and only has one speaker wire with a positive and negative end comming out. I wired the positive side into the positive left main speaker output of the receiver, and the negative into the negative left main speaker output. So my left main speaker output is running the subwoofer AND the left front main speaker.
It is working fine for now, but is this a safe solution....or am I risking damage to my receiver?
You did right. Being a passive subwoofer, this is the only option for wiring. The "sub out" requires a powered subwoofer anyway.
