what would be better for the backseat of a camaro, a ported box or a bandpass box?
well im trying to find a box that would fit in the backseat area, It will be for 2 15" kicker L7's. im trying to get some loud bass with the just the area im working with. so im thinking two options. One Idea i had was to build a box like this
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-CAR-AUDIO-KICKER-L5-L7-DUAL-15-PORTED-SUB-BOX-U_W0QQitemZ150236436284QQihZ005QQcategoryZ50566QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247
My other idea was a bandpass box, because i read somewhere that a bandpass box can give you bass that would require a box twice it size to do. So i was thinking about building something like this
http://cgi.ebay.com/DUAL-12-BANDPASS-3-4-MDF-SUBWOOFER-ENCLOSURE-SUB-BOX_W0QQitemZ350051984236QQihZ022QQcategoryZ50566QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
so out of those two boxes would which would give me the loudest sound overall? and how much sound difference will there be between each two compared? which would you recommend?
hmm... thats funny I thought power was only relative between ported and sealed boxes due to the suspension factor.
Neither vented nor bandpass are really for novice and both a considerably expensive to have made (especially bandpass). A bandpass box is not something i would recommend for a daily driver or a novice, its hard to hear when your just shredding the sub and the generally less reliable setup just doesn't yield enough results to run the risk.
I recommend going with two cvx 10's in a sealed box. Thats 1200 watts RMS, will be rediculously loud at all frequencies (vented boxes and bandpass boxes don't have as flat of response curves because they are tuned to certain frequencies) and offer more reliability. Too much more wattage then that and you will need to start modifying (aka dumping more money) into your car and definately have to upgrade and amp full range speakers.
Basically what it boils down to is that a vented/bandpass box is meant for spl, which you really cannot hear and is completely impractical for music, and is less reliable. Unless you are an experienced professional with extra time, I wouldn't go down either of those roads. Also you are just wasting money getting the l7's when the power your going to need to make it worth not just getting cvx is going to put you in several more problems. Hope that helps, good luck.
