car stereo amp power problems?
I hooked up a 1000 wt amp to my car stero. I have the ground hooked to the main chasis/clean stripped metal. RCA are hooked up. Power supply 5ga power wire with 40amp fuse. The Amp is not getting power( light does not come on) If I touch the power wire to the speaker conection on the amp the amp light comes on. Is the amplafier burnt up? I used a amp meeter the power wire has elec. runing thru it. Its as if the female plug on the amp is not accepting power. What do I do?
yes the remote wire is hooked up to the stero & the amp.
Check the fuse for continuity(OHM check with your meter). If good, hook it back up, switch it ON, then check for power on the amp side of the fuse. If there is still power (12VDC), then either the amp is blown, or there is an internal fuse that is blown, or there may be a required "TURN ON" signal connection which is missing and needs to be connected. The TURN ON signal is normally an additional low current +12VDC, which is supplied by the radio when you turn it on, which in turn signals the amp to power up. Sometimes this wire from the radio is ORANGE, but ofcourse this could vary. If you suspect this is the problem, you'll need to check the documentation for the signal to terminal designations for both the AMP and radio , unless they are well labeled on the case(s) of the units.
