Car Stereo Speakers-What Do I need to know?
My two front speakers are "popped" and sound awful whenever i turn my stereo on...
I'm going to a audio "dealer" to purchase and install speakers for my car...
What things should I be asking? I want to make sure I am getting decent speakers but, I have no clue what to ask the gentleman...
(i.e. watts? speaker brand?...etc)
Okay, ignore the person who first answered this question. He is quoting brands and cannot spell them, so that leads me to believe he doesn't know what he is talking about. The first thing you have to do is determine the power your running to your speakers. Most stereos today put out a max of 50 watts. Also, what kind of music you listen to and at what level plays a part too. If you are a rap fan, then something with a heavier magnet and better quality voice coil that can take the bass is needed. If not, then those aren't quite as important. I suggest The brands of KENWOOD, PIONEER, SONY for the cheaper models, and if you want better quality, go for POLK AUDIO, ROCKFORD FOSGATE, or JL AUDIO. The cheaper models will work for most, but with car audio, you really do get what you pay for. Also, stay away from JENSEN, and other cheap speaker that advertise a high power rating. If you put the power rating to a test, you will blow the cheapos in a heartbeat.
