What is the best Aquarium Starter kit, and where can I get one? Easiest fish for a beginner?
I'd like to start with a 10 gallon tank, I used to see these come as kit with pump, aerator, hose rocks, top w/lights. Everything.
Would I be ok to start with One plecostamous, 1 tropical catfish and a dozen Tetras???
ten gallon tanks are harder to maintain then 20, and 20 is harder than 30
no pleco can live in a 10 gallon, the comman ones can grow to 2 feet, dwarf species are still too big, and make too much mess, for a ten gallon tank.
most catfish are too big or need to be schools. the only catfish that is small enough for a 10 gallon and can live by itself is a stone catfish.
the smallest tetras grow to 1,5 inches, the maximum you can get in a ten gallon is 6-7 . you can never have more than 7-8 inches of fish in a ten gallon tank. Also, tetras are sensitive fish, they do not do well in new tanks, many will die from new tank syndrom
the easiest fish for beginers are bettas,
in a ten gallon heated to 78-79 degrees, with filter and airpump, you could have
1 betta.
and
3 mollies OR platies, all the same sex or 1 male and 2 females of either
and
1 stone catfish Or 4 pygmy or dwarf cory catfish
