avh p3200dvd red wire?

for my stereo installation it says that the red wire goes to a terminal controlled by ignition switch (12 v DC).... the last time i connected it, my ignition switched messed up and they charged me over 600 dollars. where elsa can i connect it to? and why did my ignition switch die on me. basically my car didnt want to start and when it did it died.

was there no accessory wire in the harness that went into the original stereo?

you actually want to go off of your accessory wire. you can find that in the ignition harness, fuse box or depending on the car you might be able to go off the cigarette lighter. if you have a meter test before hooking up. also make sure you fuse the wire.
