Start Combo Fits
Why would my van start once,then not again?

I have a Combo diesel van,1700 .I ran completely dry of fuel last week,got fuel in a can,filled up,started.I have since then put four gallons in her.Now,for some reason she wont start at all.The engine cranks over strongly enough,good battery,a brand new alternator,fitted since running out of fuel,and the starter motor is just over a year old.
yesterday,she did start the once,i then turned off the ignition thinking everything was going to be ok,unfortunately since then she wont start,symptoms as I have described above.I have fitted a new fuel filter since running dry.Would appreciate very much some help on this matter,thank you so much.

Fuel system needs bleeding
OR Fuel pump broken due to lack of lubrication when Diesel ran out and subsequent starting attempts.
OR rubbish picked up from bottom of tank when it ran dry has cloogged some fuel pipes
