My car will only turn on if you've disarmed with the remote. You can't just open the door with the key and then start the car with the key; it won't start. You have to press the disarm key at some point beforehand.
What do you do if you lose the remote? I ask because I just got a spare key made, but it just hit me; it's useless. Do I need to get a spare remote?! It doesn't seem like it should be that complicated.
Your car should have come with a spare, but you can either go to a place like car toys and buy a keyless entry system for $150, or go to the dealership and get another remote for about $250. I've never heard about a car that doesn't allow you to start the car without the remote. Even cars with smart keys come with a valet key that they use all the time to unlock and start cars. Something's messed up with your car.
