Where can i find a RCA converter?
I have a 2001 dodge cummins with the stock sterio. I have just bought subs and an amp and want to get them hooked up as soon as possible. I have read that there are RCA output converters that you pull your sterio out of the dash, unplug the wire harness, plug the converter in and then plug the harness into the back of the converter an it has the RCA outputs on the sides. I was wondering where could i find one that would work for my truck without going to a sterio shop. A web address would be great. THanks
hello again. You will want to run another battery (or set of batteries) unless you have a very small amp and a single small 8"-10" sub.
Buy a high output alternator (at least 120A if not 170A) regardless of what amp/subs you decide to use. Some trucks may have a high output alternator from the factory, but I doubt it's enough to run an entire sub system.
The alternator may or may not fix the electrical draw problems, the real cure is a second battery (or third if you want to run 1000watts+) wired with an isolator. Google and check around on audio forums. If both the extra battery and alternator are not in your budget DONT wire up the amp and subs. For sure don't wire up the subs, the amp will put less stress on your electrical system if its only powering the current speakers for really loud treble. But low/loud bass with no extra battery/alternator = death to your electrical system and car batteries.
A capacitor is nice, but only stores power for times when the subs need a lot of wattage for low bass, they drain within a minute or a few minutes depending on which model you buy. They then recharge after being drained so more power can be used for the next wave of strong base during the song. This is why it's also a bad idea to crank up the volume on songs with only low bass for a long time, too much hurt on the electrical
