i bought a 400 watt amp, what the maximum amount of power that this amp would be able to support? Ive found that the majority of subs are around 1500 watts. would this amp work for subs with that power?
you are very confused.
amps don't necessarily "support" power in the way that you are thinking of. they supply power. and the majority of subs operate under a lot less than 1500 watts. unless you're talking about inflated max ratings, which are irrelevant anyways. you always want to look at the RMS rating of electronic equipment. only the top of most car audio comanies subwoofer lines can run on 1500 watts.
your anp will work with any woofer as long as you don't present it with an ohm load that is too low for it to handle. but your amp will work best with a woofer that runs on 400 watts RMS.
subs don't provide any power at all. they are on the recieveing end. amps provide all the power, thats why they are more expensive. and a subwoofer will accept any power output that it is given. but if its too high you'll blow it, and if its too low, you won't get much volume.
