Can I make an alpine type r w/ dual 4 ohm coils run as 2 ohm?
I have an alpine type r dual 4 ohm. It came with power from amp running positive to one coil and negative to the other. Then, it has a positive to positive bridge and negative to negative bridge from coil to coil. First off, is this running as 8 ohm or 4 ohm?(is it 4 ohm + 4 ohm making 8 ohm or does it still run 4 ohm total?) Also, I was told that somehow I could re-wire this to run as 2 ohm. How would this be done if this is true? Lol please give me an audio equipment 101 crash course and let me know. I also have a Power Acoustik FUBAR-12W that's dual 4 ohm (has bigger coil than alpine but not near as well made and smaller magnet). Open for recommendations on a good amp(s) to run these subs. Looking at Hifonics BRUTUS, Kole Audio TRAX1-7000D, or Power Acoustik BAMF5500 mono amps right now to run both (bout 200 to 400 dollar range). Yeah stats are probably mostly BS but name brands are really expensive. Anyways tell me what you know, I'd greatly appreciate it!
If you are going to use both subs you would see a 1 ohm load if wired together in parallel (all pos toghether, and all neg together). As for amps check out Audioque. They have a true 2200 watt rms amp for under $400, and 1200 rms under $300. Both the amps are rated at 1ohm
