Im just getting my first car audio system (first car too but i've got that covered) anyway, I'm planning on having 2 kicker square 15s in a signle ported box. with two subs on the same system, but possibly using two amps to power the system. do i need to get a MONO, a stereo or a multi channel amp/amps for this? can someone give me general info on ohms? thanx a bunch!!
longview has a very short view. The lower the ohm more power this has olny to do with your amp. The speakers rated ohm is only to let you know what your telling the amp to do. It will be no easier for your amp to push a 2 ohm than a 4 ohm speaker. You will just get more power from THE AMP at 2 ohms than 4 thats it. I would go with 1 big mono amp so that the subs will get the same signal at the same time from the same amp with the same settings, other wise your going to have to try and get both amps settings exactly right or your going to start to get cancelation going on. Mono for subs and stereo for your insides.
Remeber match the ohms of the sub to the amp, if you have a 2 ohmDVC(dual voice coil) sub that means you can run the sub at 1 or 4 ohms depending on the wirng if its a 4 ohm DVC thats 2 or 8 ohms and if you put (2) 2 omh dvcs on a amp you can run the amp at .5, 1, 2, 4, or 8, ohms. I always try to go for a 2 ohm dvc sub because of all the wiring options, be carefull though becuase if you wire the subs to a ohm rating under the amps minimum stable rating you will ruin the amp
