whats wrong with my stereo?
I had a panasonic in dash flip up and a few days after I installed it the power on the unit wouldn't work, it would just flash, I pulled out the unit and sent it in for warranty. for the time being I put in an old kenwood unit I had and it worked great for a couple weeks but now it's doing the same thing. there is only three wires that are used to hook it up and I know their right. the radio that was in my truck before was working and never had a problem so I bought a new harness to see if maybe it was a crappy harness but any other input would be helpful. the truck is a 01 dodge ram 2500
You could have a short in your "ON" power. It sounds like the constant power is working fine because the light still flashes.
There are 3 wires that are for the power, like you said. Back, Red, and Yellow. One of those wires is shorting out somewhere. It could be right there behind the stereo, or it could be behind the dash, or it could be at the fuse box.
Also check your fuses and make sure the radio fuse isn't just half plugged in, and shorting out.
If you have a multimeter you can find which wire is shorting. When it isnt working pull the radio out. Check the voltage on the red to black, and then yellow to black, making sure that the key is on. If you have voltage on neither your ground could be bad. Then you can go from red to metal somewhere in the car (connected to chasis), and should get 12V.
