What type of amp would suit these speakers?
i have bought these speakers:

What type of amp would you think best suits them? and is it true to get an amp that has a higher output than the speaker's output rating?
the towers are rated at 220W rms
and the center & bookshelf speakers are rated at 60W rms
No its the other way around - your speakers need to have a power handling capacity that is more than the amplifier. If you have already got the speakers you will need an amp that has a power output at somewhere around 80-90% of the power rating of the speakers.
The 6 ohm rating of the speakers will allow you to connect them to an amp with either 4 ohm or 8 ohm output rating, but because the lower the speaker impedance (in ohms), the more power the amp will output, but it will also get hotter - much hotter. So if you connect them to an amp with 8 ohm rating, don't whip up the volume too much.
So in answer to your question, if you already have the speakers, these will dictate what type of amplifier you get.
Incidentally, watch for the way in which the amplifier output is rated. For example 1 watt RMS (root mean square) = 1.4 watts MPO (music power output) = 2.8 watts PMPO (peak music power output). So in the case of the centre/bookshelf speakers for example, if the amp is rated in PMPO it would need to deliver around 150 watts per channel.
