I purchased some Polk MM521 5 1/4 coaxial speakers for my boat. Can I just hook them up to my Steareo Head unit and be ok? I purchased a Sony CDXM30 Marine CD Receiver MP3/WMA/AAC Player. In the description it says = "Marine CD receiver with built-in amplifier (17 watts RMS/52 peak ? 4 channels)". I DO like to listen to my stereo loud. Thanks in advance to all that can help. I am clueless when it comes to Audio!
the speakers came with a "crossover". So I am assuming I just take the speaker wire that is already fed through my boat and hook it into the crossover. And then hooking the two sets of wires coming out of the crossover to the Speaker & the tweeter that is built in? If I dont amp them will it do damage? Will they still be pretty loud? I am not sure what OHMS are......sorry.
I would be more concerned about the speakers being able to handle the stereo's output. As long as those speakers can handle 75 watts (which is more than the stereo's output) you should be good to go when you wire the two components together directly.
The stereo's output is polarized (positive and negative outputs). Try to keep the positive output from the stereo connected to the positive tab on the speakers. Those tabs should be marked on the voice-coil side of the speaker, and the output polarity will probably be color-coded on the stereo, or shown in the wiring diagram of the instruction/installation manual.
