'Please Check Signal' Message, Help please?
My computer works, but when I turn it on the monitor (eMachines) stays black with the blue power light flashing. I hit "Exit" on the monitor and "Please Check Signal" message starts flashing (red green and blue message.)
The little fan on my video card is moving, so I don't think there is a problem with it, and I don't think the mobo or CPU is fried, since the computer itself turns on.
What could be the problem? My monitor was working just fine a few hours ago.
To clarify, your computer is doing *nothing* but moving air and you think it "works"?
When you say "the computer itself turns on", how are you determining that? Because the fans spin and the power light comes on? You think the CPU is needed to turn the computer on? If that was true, how would the CPU turn the computer on since it would have to be off in order for the computer to need to be turned on?
You have the second most common hardware problem in the world. You need to:
1) Open your computer and check for anything obvious. Make sure *all* fans spin (CPU fan, power supply fan, graphics card fan). Make sure the heat sink is still attached. Make sure nothing blew up.
2) Disconnect all devices not needed for the computer to POST (power on self test). Leave only the CPU, RAM, motherboard, power supply, and video card (if no onboard video) connected.
3) Apply power and see if the computer works. If it does, add back device one by one to find the problem.
4) If it doesn't work, you can try a lot of things. You can try swapping components, clearing the CMOS, or removing components and checking for a correct beep code. You can try removing some of your RAM. You can try using a different video card.
