My house was pre-wired incorrectly, so all the wires led to the basement. All those wires are connected to a 8 port ethernet switch. I want to connect a wireless ethernet bridge to the switch to connect to my router. Will this work?
If there are wires running through the walls, why not just install a router in the basement, and plug in any of the wires you need into the 4 ports. Then, put in a wireless access point like a WAP54 off one of those wired ports (upstairs?)
Sounds like the house was wired correctly, all ethetnet cabling should go to a "closet" where the main routers and switches are installed. My house has all wiring going to the basement, where I have my router(s). If I need extra, I configure (very carefully), a second router as a switch/wireless access point.
