I drive a 94 Toyota Paseo and the clutch is going out. My dealer is going to charge me about $750 to replace the clutch kit, grind the flywheel, and replace the rear main seal. I'm just trying to figure out if they repairs are worth it. My engine is solid and will probably last forever; I'm worried about the transmission. How long should I expect it to last? Right now it's OK. It does shift kind of hard. Any expert or "been there" opinions?
The main reason I'm asking, since I'm a novice with manual transmissions, is because it's shifting so hard. None of the gears engage smoothly. Is this an issue at all?
Wait until your clutch repairs are done and see if your hard shifting issue remains. I would bet between the worn out clutch disc and the glazing on your flywheel you will notice a difference when its all repaired.
