Whats the best air induction kit to get for a 1999 Toyota Corolla?
Hi
My 1999 Corolla is a 1.3L, and I am just trying to get my engine breathing better.
As you may know, there is an air temp sensor plugged into the stock airbox. I have seen people fitting induction systems and simply taping this down near the intake. (If there is nowhere on the system to plug this). Would this be appropriate?
I noticed that the K&N 57i-9001 would be ideal, however the little pipe coming from the engine (I think it's called the engine breather) cannot be connected to the supplied fittings. Any way around this?
I know that it's really 1.6L engines that most kits are made for, I just really want to get rid of that restricting stock airbox.
Any suggestions of makes or models would be really well appreciated.
Thanks so much!!!!
An induction kit may be a waste of time... if you must do it then the sensor can be mounted anywhere in the airflow and the breather can be run into an oil catch tank or out directly through a small breather filter. Make sure it's not a pcv type valve though - run your engine then pull the brether hose off - if your engine stalls then it's a pig. If it keeps running the same then use a little filter. Personally from experience with mucking about with many cars, I have found that drilling out the "dirty" side of the airbox works the best. You retain the factory cool air feeds but drastically increase volume of available air. Have done this on a supra, 2.5 probe, 2.8 capri and Golf gti 16v with better results than pipercross / Green induction kits on the same cars and on xr2i's and a BMW 325i. It's also free (except for your time cutting holes in the airbox) and the box adds a little resonant bass to the induction roar.! Just make sure you only cut the dirty side not the clean side of the filter !
