Installation Wire Colors
There are too many mismatching colour wires for ceiling light installation, help please!?

I bought a ceiling light fixture from IKEA the other day. But in the ceiling where the fixture should go (there never was one), there are too many wires and colours don't match. The fixture has white, black, and green (ground, I think). And the ceiling has multiple 2 or 3 each, I think, of red, yellow, and green.
Which wire should be connected to which? Please help!

Dear Befuddled: You need to get an electrician or learn how to operate a voltmeter along with a basic knowledge of residential electric wiring. I have been an electrician for 30 years. Your new fixture has three connections to be made; the hot wire (black or red), the neutral wire (white), and the ground wire (green or bare). The light switch(es) for the room should have a black or red wire capped off in the box. The white and green wires go color to color and the black wire from the fixture should go to wichever wire in the box the switch powers up. Still, unless you know exactly what you are doing, you run the risk of fire from a faulty connection. GIZMO
