Which pedal is more important, noise suppressor, compressor, or EQ?
I have 30 bucks, and I have a choice of getting:
Behringer DC9 ( http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHDC9 )
Behringer EQ700 ( http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHEQ700 )
Behringer NR100 ( http://www.activemusician.com/item--EM.BHR-NR100?ref=fg&ovchn=SCU&ovtac=CMP&ovcpn=&ovcrn=Behringer+NR100+Noise+Reducer+Effects+Pedal )
or Behringer HD400 ( http://cgi.ebay.com/Behringer-HD400-MICROHD-Noise-Hum-Destroyer-Eliminator_W0QQitemZ310100244063QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting )
I play pretty much all genres of blues, rock, and funk. Which one would be the best? I know Behringer isn't the greatest brand, btw.
In general, you should do everything in your power to avoid noise without having to use a noise suppressor. Have your guitar properly shielded and grounded and don't use too much gain (only as much as you need), that's 80% of it right there.
A compressor is rather subtle, and won't work for all styles of music. It's important to note that a compressor lowers your dynamic range, which has the effect of making background hiss/hum/noise louder... you should only consider a compressor pedal if you have spent time eliminating noise from your rig already. Yes, properly set up it can give you a little more "chunk" or "sustain" (depending on your settings), but me personally, I'd rather work on the quality of the tone itself before focusing on dynamics... which should always start with your hands anyways, right?
Unless you absolutely know that you need a "hum eliminator" then don't get it (ie you've done everything else to eliminate noise and hum already, etc).
So yeah, my suggestion is the EQ pedal. You can impact and sculpt your tone with tons of flexibility, it's very powerful and effective after a distortion pedal, for instance.
