Is it illegal to install blue and red lights on your car?
I know there is plenty of questions like this, But what I want to know is it illegial to install blue and red lights behind the grill of my car.... where they cannot be seen? Would I get in trouble even if They were not used or visible to the public... It wouldnt really be impersonating a police officer.... but im sure they would find a way to approach it? and would they ever find out? haha... If they did see them installed could I get in trouble is the main point. Thanks
cheers for all the answers! It was intended for off road use... I was going to use it for a photo shoot... but Im not sure now... I thought you could install any colour lights for show... as there is car shows that support this... but it would be illegial to use it. If they are not visible when switched off ( behind the grill ) Is it still a offence? Id say it is....
Here's the short and sweet answer;
You can put them on your car, motorcycle any vehicle you'd like.
But they CAN NOT be operated while on public roadways.
Only white and amber lights are legal from the front.
Red and amber from the rear (unless backing of course)
Most states recognize custom enhancements to vehicles of all types, this is why it is usually stated NOT LEGAL FOR HIGHWAY USE.
If you're parked at your local hangout, on private property, shine them lights.
As always, check local laws to be sure of this. But seriously, why would a cop come on PRIVATE property for a traffic violation?
And if the lights are attached to your vehicle, but not activated, then you DON'T have illegal lights operating on a public highway.
