Have you ever failed to patent an idea that was later used?
I invented the 'assisted cruise control' that uses radar or lasers to set the speed of your vehicle to the speed of the one in front of you, and even included options like 'distance keeper' that keeps you at a safe distance depending on your speed, and 'brake alert' that alerts the driver when brakin is required to avoid a collision. Even though my idea was stolen due to my lack of motivation and funds to get it patented, I still doubt people understand the impact it will one day have on traffic flow, especially on a crowded highway. I mean think about it. Eventually you could hook the device up to the brakes so that your car knows exactly when to brake, making it possible to follow behind a car at high speeds just inches from the bumper. Think about how many more cars you could fit on a highway!! Anyway, that was my sad story. How about yours?
everyone has had a idea "stolen" from them. the fact is, just about every patent actually issued has been thought of thousands of times. so many people think that they are the only one to think of such a thing, but nobody actually goes through the process, and eventually someone will, then thousands of people say, "i thought of that first". no you didnt! youre lazy! also, you can come up with a concept, such as your cruise idea, but to have it patented, you have to be able to create it, and make it work. most ideas like this are thought of many times before, but do you really think you could figure out all of the technical issues without help from engineers? i personally own 2 patents, but hve many more ideas that other people have invented. one idea i had, i applied for a patent costing over$6000, only to find out that it was already patented in 1936. even if you get a patent issued, it hardly does any good, because the system is f'd, and anyone can re-word the patent just a little and REALLY steal your idea. i have a bad taste about the whole patent system. i would not recommend to anyone that they should seek a patent. i have had better luck submitting my idea to a large company that produces the type of product that i have thought of. in my case its automotive tools. many companys accept ideas, and will actually do everything for you, then give you a royalty. my 2 issued patents were done by this company, and all i did was submit my ideas. we are just little people, and the big guys will just crush us in the end. you cant beat them, so just join them. i had to learn the hard way.
