I'm souping up my car stereo and was told I need a Farad Digital Power Capacitor to go with my 1600 watts of amp.What are they and Are they worth it?What size should I go with?
Well, Farad is the term of measurment for a capacitor, like a volt is a measurement of electricity.
A capacitor is a device that stores electricity and releases it when demanded upon and is much faster than the battery. It assists the electrical system by picking up some of the slack the electrical system has a hrad time providing. The difference between a cap and a battery is a battery creates electricity through a chemical reaction and a cap stores electricity as I said.
With 1600 watts I'd go with at least a 2 Farad capacitor.
Brand means squat, however the lower the ESR rating the better.
It should be as close electrically to the amp as possible.
