difference between alpine and JL?
i am looking at subwoofers and there are so many i do not know what to get. i have narrowed it down to two. JL W3V3's or Alpine SWR-1242D Type R's. the Jl's are 300 watts rms each but we all know that they are loud. the type R's rms is around 400-500. i want to stress that i am NOT looking for bass that makes me want to throw up. just tight clean bass that doesnt distort and i want it to hit every note. i know that JL is going to meet my needs, so my real question is, are the alpine's just as good? if not, how nice are they as far as SQ and SPL? they will be going in a ported box tuned to about 34Hz in a 99 grand am. here are the links
Alpine Type R's: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14954
JL W3V3's: http://www.millionbuy.com/jla12w3v34.html
Both are great choices for tight bass drivers but the Alpine SWR is most likely going to perform better in a vented box tuned at 34Hz. In fact, that is an optimal situation for the 12" SWR. Nothing against JL though - good brand. Tough choice. Good luck.
