I'm looking at buying a new head unit and speakers with amp but am unclear on power limits of speakers on amp.
The head unit I am looking at is the Sony CDX-GT710. I then started to look at speakers and saw an amp-sub-speakers kit.
5 Channel Amplifier – 1000 Watts Max
12” Subwoofer – 400 Watts Max (200RMS)
6x9” 3-way Speakers – 260 Watts Max (75W RMS)
6.5” 2-Way Speakers – 180 Watts Max (50W RMS)
8 Gauge Amplifier Installation Kit
The amps specs are;
80 Watts RMS x 4 + 170 Watts x 1 @ 4 Ohms and 1% THD+N
100 Watts RMS x 4 +260 Watts x1 @ 2 Ohms and 1% THD+N
200 Watts RMS x 2 +170 Watts x1 @ 4 Ohms and 1% THD+N
And now for my question- The lowest output power from the amp (80W rms) seems to be too high for the speakers (50W and 75W). Will this cause problems to the speakers?
Any help at all will be welcomed. I dont know much about this as you may have gathered.
Many thanks
Richard
no you should be fine, the rms is really a guide line. i know it says your 6.5inch speaker rms wattage is 50w but you can go over a little bit. only thing though make sure you wire your speakers and subs in a 4ohm configuration or you could blow your front speakers..
