We took our 1979 Allsport 16 ft runabout boat out fishing for the first time this year and the steering whhel was hard to turn and kept clicking, kinda of like how your power steering goes out in your car. Anyways we had to lean our way into shore. My husband is a total DIY'er. He did ask a boat company and they said it would be $700. I don't even think the boat is worth that.Any suggestions?
Get a grease gun ($8 auto store) and a tube of Marine grease from an outboard, or boat store, start shooting grease into the "Pivot Tube's" grease fittings, do the "Tilt Tube" grease fittings as well, have someone turn the wheel, as you grease. move the engine up and down as you grease the tilt tube as well. The grease is drying up in the tubes, grease every 2-weeks.
