Tires with more siping (grooves between the tread blocks) will grip the road better than a tire with large blocks of tread in wet roads, but it flexes too much and heats up too much on dry roads.
Motorcycles have to lean onto the sides of the tires to turn, same with a bicycle, this is why the grooving extends to the sides. This is also why the tires have a rounded profile, not squared like a car tire.
People who reduce air pressure in their tires on icy conditions are nuts. You want higher pressure, if anything, because it will reduce the contact patch and increase the force on each tire, to increase grip. But the theory is that if you reduce air pressure, you get a bigger contact patch to grip the ice. It doesn't work that way, unfortunately.
