I just came from a car audio shop and i was talking to one of the installers and we got on the topic of RMS. I was under the impression that if a subwoofer is rated for lets say 1000 watts RMS then i could get an amp that pushes 1000 watts RMS, he told me that I was wrong and that i shouldn't have 1000 watts pushing the sub. He really didn't explain why i was wrong, so i was hoping someone here can clear it up for me, if i'm wrong please explain why and how much power should i be pushing on a sub that is 1000 watts RMS and 3000 watts max.
By the way the sub is an alpine type x and the amp is the alpine MPM1000.

That is a perfect setup...A type X is 1000 RMS and the MRP-M1000 makes a 1000 if not a little more...If anything I am pretty sure that it can handle 1200 watts. For peak performance I recommend a Zapco Iforce amp for that sub...thats a serious sub
