do i use a cross-over? I'm putting one speaker for deeper tones in a stock, 4-channel car audio system, how do i isolate it from the left and right channels? i'm not concerned with the the amp or speaker box details, just isolating the deep from the left, right, front, and back channels.
If you're not willing to buy an amplifier that has a low-pass crossover built-in, then don't buy a subwoofer. A subwoofer will sound as good without a low-pass crossover as a tweeter will WITH a low-pass crossover*. And you can't/don't want to isolate the sub from the left and right channels. You want it to be producing the same music that they are (don't you?).
*Low-pass crossovers only let the bass through to a speaker. High-pass crossovers only the the midrange or highs through to a speaker.
