Question about fuses/fuse holders!?
Ok so I ordered everything over the internet and it has already arrived, only problem is i forgot about the fuses! I have a non-fuse distribution block for a 4-gauge input, 8-gauge output. I have been around town and can't find very many fuse holders. I found one from Lightning Audio that is for 4/8-gauge wire, but it is an AGU fuse, and on the back of the thing it says AGU highest fuses go up to 60 amps. I read that for 4 gauge wire, you need 150 amp fuse, and for 8 gauge you need 100 amp fuses. If I were to hook up the fuse holders with 60 amp fuses in the 8 gauge wires (and possibly the 4 guage), would it take away from my audio?
i have this holder: http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=FH-44
for 8 bucks and it comes with the fuse. as for the fuse size the number you were listing were the largest size to run on that size wire. so for your 4 ga go no higher than 150 amp, but no lower than the total of all the fuses on the amps added up. and as long as your between there your o.k. i would recomend that you have a fused distribution block. here why (although unlikely) you could get a short between the distribution block and the amp connection, if that happened with a non fused block the smaller 8 ga wire could potentially see the full load of the 4 ga wire before it would blow the fuse near the battery making that short section a fire hazzard. non fused blocks are typically used for ground wire, that does not need fused. a fused distribution would then be for the power side, and a fuse should match the fuse sizes added up on the amp.
